Woman are making history in Football; playing, officiating, coaching, and organizing the sport.

In 2019, CDMFA formed a new U19 Female Tackle Division with the help of the Edmonton Storm, to promote females playing football in a league that is their own! In 2020 the CDMFA added a second age division, U16, to our Female Tackle Football programming.

Offering girls-only tackle divisions fosters and develops opportunities for girls to play football with and against other girls. This division provides a unique opportunity for female youth to create long-lasting bonds and friendships within the new, but fast-growing female football world.

For the 2025 season, the following birth years apply:

U16 - Players born in 2010, 2011, 2012

U19 - Players born in 2007, 2008, 2009

Gameplay: Full-Field 6-a-side Football

Club practices start from late February to early March (club dependent)

Games start mid-April and run until late May or early June.

Commitment: 1 game per week with 2-3 practices per week.

Why 6-a-side? It is a fast and exciting alternative to traditional 12-a-side football that gives more opportunity for athletes to develop and be involved, as well as ensuring exposure to multiple positions in the game.

While female athletes are always welcome to register for our Fall Tackle programs within their age division, once these athletes reach the high school level, they are not always comfortable playing co-ed sports and sometimes, it's just not that simple.

The goal of our Spring Female Tackle Programs is to ensure our female athletes have a safe, fun and team environment where our players can further their skills, their game knowledge and their fitness levels, while playing in a much more competitive place after their Bantam years, who may not be able to play high school football for a number of reasons.

The spring female season usually starts with a CDMFA league wide combined camp in February, where the girls get to know each other as teammates and opponents, while working in different stations, with different coaches in drills to better assess their ability and learning multiple positions and football fundamentals. This combined camp is the best time to come out and try football, without any previous experience and does not require pre-enrollment with a specific club.
